To the surprise of no one, Dan Steinberg of the DC Sports Bog came strong this morning. The best part, before even focusing on the game at hand, that we would like to sweep under the proverbial rug, he shot up a post about LeBron James’ (I assume pre-game) meeting with Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin.
Definitely head to The Bog to get the full dialogue, but the crux of the meeting was LeBron and Mav Carter meeting Ovechkin and a few of his teammates.
A few quick thoughts on the meeting:
- Ovechkin’s a pretty big boy. I guess it is similar to watching the NBA when all of the players are relatively similar in height, but you never really realize how big 6’8″ really is until they’re standing next to an average-sized person. He’s only a few inches shorter than James, and that surprised me. Keep in mind that I know next to nothing about hockey.
- The glam behind the NBA is obviously different than that of the NHL. I find it very interesting that Ovi and Backstrom were rocking hooded sweatshirts and James (he of the GQ covers) is in his typical collar/coat/sunglasses. I actually wonder if James would even consider leaving his house in a black, Affliction-like hooded sweatshirt. Same for someone like Braylon if we want to bring in the NFL. Neither is good or bad, just intriguing…
- Think James sends Ovechkin any gear in the mail? Maybe bad form given the exchange last night, but I’m sure Ovi wouldn’t mind getting the favor returned by the best basketball player in the league.
- These are the types of things I love reading about. These and interviews with Larry Hughes when he gets to be reminded that the team he left has 60+ wins. Those are always fun as well.
